Knott’s Berry Farm

Knott’s Berry Farm is almost as well known for its line of jams and preservatives as for its fun filled theme park. The park is situated on the site of a former berry farm in Buena Park, California, dating back to the 1920s. In the 1940s the farm began to be converted into a theme park. Today, Knott’s Berry Farm attracts over three million visitors annually.

There are six main areas in the park, each with its own thrilling rides and attractions. The Ghost Town is one of the oldest areas, and is perfect for history lovers. Indian Trails is another area of historical interest, and is a celebration of Native American culture. Camp Snoopy is ideal for children, as well as Peanuts fans of all ages. Wild Water Wilderness features a river rafting ride known as Big Rapids, while further water adventures can be had at Soak City, a separate, dedicated water park. Thrill seekers can ride the 301 feet tall WindSeeker in the Fiesta Village, or alternatively head to the Boardwalk to ride the Supreme Scream or the Xcelerator roller coaster.

Visitors to the park can stay at the 320 room Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel. There are several dining options throughout each area of the park, as well as a separate picnic area. One of the most popular places to eat is Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant, home of the famous Knott chicken dinner and boysenberry pies. These are still made to Mrs. Knott’s original recipes from the 1930s. Each area of the park also has a variety of shops, where visitors can buy snacks, souvenirs, merchandise, and gifts.

The opening hours of Knott’s Berry Farm change according to the season. Generally, the park is open from ten in the morning until six at night during the week, and until ten at night at the weekends. However, there are often exceptions and it is best to check in advance. For example, there are always extended opening hours at Christmas and Halloween.

Halloween is when the park becomes Knott’s Scary Farm. Camp Snoopy becomes Camp Spooky with a special costume party for kids, and the entire park is transformed into a haunted house theme. Employees dress up as ghosts, witches, zombies, and monsters to complete the effect. At this time, and throughout the year, visitors can take advantage of a Fast Lane ticket to get to the front of the queue on the most popular rides. An annual season pass is also available, which offers value over individual ticket prices.
